Sounds like you already understand purple. Purple is considered mature, yet you seldom see it on old ladies! Purple has always meant luxury and sophistication. A woman in purple isn’t afraid to stand out or to announce herself to the world. Purple is bold, but not brash. It speaks clear and loud, but it isn’t whiny or strident. Purple was once worn only by royalty, and it still carries its royal heritage in how we perceive the colour and the people who wear it. Tints of purple are considered old fashioned, and dark shades of purple are considered dark and menacing, more so than black. Purple is bold, a dress in pink is girly and frou-frou, the same dress in purple is suddenly sophisticated and chic. Purple is one of my favourite colours.

I don’t know about in current times, But 100’s of years ago, purple used to be known as the color of royality. Lots of kings and queens had robes that were very deep, dark purple. This was because the berries used to dye the robes were very expensive and most people of that time period, just wore undyed clothing, with was usually beige, or brown – very bland..

Sophistication, maturity (depending on the shade), and it’s somewhat unisex. A man can wear a deeper purple (eggplant, royal), and so can a woman. When I see someone dressed in a nice purple shirt or dress, I think they look very chic, but it also tells me that they’re open to creativity and exploration, because purple is a somewhat daring color to wear.

Purple has always been the color of royalty. Imagine purple velvet – rich and deep.

Purple also combines the best of two colors from which it came: red and blue. Red is for passion while blue exudes traquility. The resulting combination of these two colors is purple where the red-hot passion has been tempered by the calmness of blue.

Take note that other tints of purple like lavender has been associated with old maids. But the original purple has been used successfully to give the impression of sophistication when used with black.
